These records document Governor William O. Bradley's use of the governor's power and privilege to deny pardons to convicts, and to reject petitions for the postponement or remission of fines. Each petition is accompanied by an envelope which lists the petitioner's name, county and offense, and frequently the date of executive action. The governor's reasons for his decision are often noted on the envelope as well; in many instances these are quite detailed. Attached to some petitions are copies of indictments, other court records, and/or related correspondence.
